A month has passed since my last post but for extremely good reason...this weekend will mark the closing weekend of Unquiet's production of Rocky Horror. It has been an amazing (and exhausting) run and I could not be more proud of every single person who has worked on this show. I will miss them all.
Here's a couple pics of things we built for the show...while most of the designs are mine literally none of the pieces we constructed from scratch could have come to life without the help of James Maxted! Seriously he took the vague directions I gave him and made things even better! I was also super happy with how many cast members (and some of their significant others) came out to help build/paint/assemble! Huge thanks also go out to Eric Verchot-Ware who built the platform & Jacob Wehrheim who stabilized the transducers and built the bench for Brad's car with Eric among other things!

Frank's Throne
A week of rhinestones, glue guns, fabric and paint all at Mom & Tim's house and the throne was complete! We use the throne after the show as well when the audience gets the chance to take photos with the cast. Over the summer my momma & I drove to Iowa for my cousin's wedding and while there I hit up an antique store & Chuck's Bargain Barn with some family. I found an awesome wooden music stand at the antique store for only $10 and at Chuck's I got Dr. Scott's wheel chair and Frank's throne for super cheap. It was nice not to have to add arms and a solid back like I originally though I'd have to!
Denton Sign | Transducers |
In the movie it's a billboard and I love our way of having Trixie hold it instead! Katy did an amazing job designing and creating it! | We designed the transducers so they would be the back of the bookcases...with the limited backstage space we have it helped not to have more things to store and I think they turned out pretty good! |
Rocky's Box
In the movie Rocky's box looks like it's filled with liquid in a rainbow design...in the script Frank calls out "BALLS!" so my solution to both of these was to use ball-pit balls. I'm really happy with the end result!
Brad's Car
I knew from the beginning that I wanted something more than just a cardboard front for the car. It's a short scene but I think having them actually pushed on (the whole thing is on wheels) makes all the difference. The lights do light up, just push lights from the dollar store! Before the stage lights come on the car starts rolling on (pushed by two ensemble members) with the lights on and I really dig the effect of the "headlights' cutting through the fog.
The Criminologist's Desk & Stand
The stand that Aaron uses to hold his book about the "Denton Affair" is the one I bought at the antique store in Iowa. I spray painted it the same as Frank's throne and added the bling. Everything else that decorates his desk and bookshelf behind him is mine...minus 3 of the hollow books. The light is on a remote that Aaron controls since that area of the theater isn't lit by any stage lights.
The show is entering it's last weekend and our two performances are our audience participation shows. Which means that right now I'm busy assembling prop bags and printing call-out scripts.
