The first two days of the year have passed by and I am feeling good. So far I am on track, maybe a little ahead, of where I want to be to finish the projects I've picked out for this month. | Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible. |
January is for crafts. This month I'm working on late holiday gifts. My friends and I decided that we would take pressure off of ourselves and exchange gifts in the new year. I've got six scarves and two pairs of legwarmers to make this month. Four of the scarves have been started, one is almost halfway completed, and one just needs some finishing touches. I've got the yarn for the rest and just need to find the right pattern for the legwarmers.
While cleaning and organizing my room before Christmas, we had my family at our house, I got the itch to switch some things around. My father plays a lot of golf and when he goes to tournaments with raffles he enters and wins a lot. One of the last big things he won was a flat screen hd tv which he used to replace the one in my parent's bedroom. I got the hand-me-down and put it in my bedroom. I brought my Wii up so I can play some games and watch movies whenever the mood strikes. The table it rests on used to be under my window which was great for watching movies in bed but I recently hurt my back, actually have several inflamed discs in my back which is not so fun, and that means that if I want to sit up and watch/play then my back is gonna start aching fairly quickly. When I set up my room way back I set up a reading area with a small upholstered chair facing a bookcase at the end of my bed. Problem is the bookcase that acts as a room divider/footboard for my bed also blocks the view of the tv. To solve my issue I switched my dresser and the tv, lots of heavy furniture that I really should not have moved alone considering my back.
So my spot these past few days has been sitting in that chair, which I have moved with me since I found it in the alley in Richmond almost seven years ago, watching The West Wing on netflix and crocheting. These projects are the first ones I've attempted while using the yarn bowl my awesome parents bought for me at The Red Thread and I love it! I didn't know projects could go so quickly with the addition of a yarn bowl. It's crazy.
If I can keep up the momentum I've had so far I'll make this month easily. And if I make this month easily, I'm hoping to take that good feeling on to February and beyond. This Saturday I'll meet up with some other folks embarking on this journey as well. Some of them are strictly writers but all of them are wonderful and I hope we can keep each other motivated for the whole damn year!
